There is perhaps no more iconic a player in the history of baseball than George Herman “Babe” Ruth, a warm, lovable figure who often had friendly exchanges with adoring fans. This single signed Ruth (d.1948) baseball is a testament to his excellent relationship with the public; he penned the Reach OAL Harridge on the west panel with the personalization “To Gordon Ottmann”. Ruth’s signature is a green steel fountain pen penning of (“8”) strength with deference to a small scuff near the top of the “R” in “Ruth”. Diligent research has revealed that this ball is from 1946-47, which means that Ruth had signed the ball after he had already been diagnosed with cancer. Baseballs that are signed by Ruth in 1946 or 1947 are rare because he was not making any more public appearances after the fall of 1945 due to his declining health. The baseball is in (“4-5”) condition with deference to scuff marks on the surface of the ball. Comes with a full-photo LOA from JSA. This item has a reserve (estimated value: $5,000-$10,000).
