Offered is the best "Big Hurt" rookie gamer ever to reach the auction block. Just one other 1991-only example has surfaced, and that predecessor was graded GU 9. This superior specimen is a fresh-to-the-hobby GU 9.5 that has remained in the consignor's collection since acquiring it from Thomas in his first full season of '91—back when the HOFer burst on the scene with an MVP-worthy .318 average, 32 HRs, 109 RBIs and 138 walks. According to PSA's 11/30/15 LOA, the Louisville Slugger C243 ash bat (33-7/8", 30.9 oz.) is "un-cracked with evidence of outstanding use," including all manner of contact marks from blue "Rawlings" ball transfers to cleat impressions to bat-rack rubbings. Thomas' uniform number "35" is also notated on the knob. What's more, the battle-scarred barrel features a jet-black "8-9" signature, "Frank Thomas / 35," which is perfectly located for maximum visual contrast. Auction LOA from JSA for the autograph.
